This month we are excited to celebrate Rhiannon Clark! She recently made the move from New York to Los Angeles with a new baby and found her tribe early on through FIT4MOM. She is positive, funny and super friendly and if you have been at all nervous about joining a FIT4MOM class, moms like Rhiannon are the reason that you should come! She's ready with a hug and a high five for you! We love you, Rhiannon and we dedicate September to you!
Where are you originally from? I was born in Las Vegas, NV but spent most of my school years in Logan, UT.
Tell us a little about your workout buddy! Liam is 14 months old and my little explorer! He is so brave and runs everywhere he goes. Life is one big adventure to him, and he has to figure out how everything works. Watching how quickly he learns is fascinating, and he is so happy and fun to be around. He is the best little buddy!
How has becoming a mother changed you? I knew motherhood would change me, but I don’t think I was prepared for how much it would change me. I wasn’t prepared for how difficult recovery would be, and I felt like it really threw me for a loop. I have always been pretty tough, but this was something very new. It also took me some time to get used to motherhood. It felt like a sweater that was too big and that I had to grow into.
Now, I find myself way more patient then I ever have been in the past. I am more go-with-the-flow because, well, have you met Liam? I am more honest with myself and with others, because I don’t have the time (or the brain power) not to be. I love more whole-heartedly. I also want to do things for myself in a way that shows Liam that things like fitness and health are important, and they can be a part of your daily life! It’s been a roller coaster ride, as far as loving my body and this “new me” but the more I get to know her, the more I’m starting to like her.
When did you join FIT4MOM and what classes do you attend? I joined FIT4MOM in February of this year. I try to attend Stroller Strides 3-5 times a week. It has become such a source of joy for me. I really look forward to coming every day to see my friends and get my sweat on!
What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM? I love that it's moms supporting moms! I have never felt such support from a group of women. We are all in this mommy thing together, and it can be really hard. Some days are harder than others. Having a “tribe” that you get to see every day, and knowing that they will listen and understand what you are going through really makes my days easier. We all share in the stresses and more importantly, we share in the joys that each mom is experiencing on her journey. I feel that all the Mamas have my back and they should know that I have theirs.
How has FIT4MOM changed your lifestyle choices? FIT4MOM has encouraged me to just do my best. The instructors help me to push further and believe that I can accomplish what they ask. In this, I have surprised myself in everything I am able to accomplish! I feel so strong and the more I notice the changes in my stamina and strength, the better I want to be!
I didn’t bounce back to my pre-baby body like I thought I would, BUT I feel so strong now. Plus, seeing what I can do now when comparing myself to my first day is astounding. I never thought I would be as strong as I am now. FIT4MOM classes have made me want to be healthier all around. I believe that it’s important for me to teach my son that having a healthy lifestyle is necessary for your mind, body and soul!
Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village." Is it important for moms to join a village? It’s SOO important to find your village!! Just being able to chat with other moms about the joys and struggles of mommyhood is so relieving! This is the toughest job, and having someone to share what you are going through, and completely understand where you are at (because they are there too!) takes a whole lot of weight off your shoulders.
We all help each other. All the mama’s know Liam. Seeing a mom reach out to give him a toy and help me out, which allows me to finish an exercise, means so much to me! It’s such a little gesture, but the support I feel when this happens is healing. Then, to see Liam walk up and just sit in a Moms lap lets me know that he feels confident in their love and support.
It’s my village and it's where I feel loved and supported. We all have our individual families, but being part of a bigger family really shows how working together can lessen your load and let you lean on a friend when you need it. It's healing to the heart and soul, and I’m so happy I have found my Village.
What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)? I am an actress, so that means I have a whole bunch of side jobs as well. Before I left New York, I was working as an administrative assistant for my husband’s company managing shows on Broadway. I took time off as an actress while I was pregnant and this past year. Now, I’m just starting to dip my toe back in the acting pool and it is super exciting!
What is your favorite family activity? We love hiking! It’s so peaceful and I also love that I’m able to carry Liam in the backpack carrier. It makes me feel super strong! I love the relaxing time (although the hikes are pretty tough) that my husband and I have together on them, and it’s fun to see Liam explore new areas of nature. My favorite times are when we find water on our hikes. Liam LOVES to play in the water.
What advice would you give a new mom? It gets easier and YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I felt very alone the first few months of having a baby, and moving to a completely new city when he was just 4 months old was so hard. Soon after we moved, I joined Stroller Strides andMOMS club. Chatting with other moms and just knowing that you have that support system available to you is so helpful! The first day of Stroller Strides was so scary and intimidating (I couldn’t even jump on the first day), but now I feel so strong. I also know that whatever I’m going through, the mom next to me probably is experiencing something similar too or just recently been through something similar. So, to all you new moms: if you ever just need a hug or just a solid high five, I’ve got you, Mama!!!
