Overwhelmed, Stressed Out, Out of Time

Yep. That's a description of yours truly on an average day. I'm on a mission to downsize, organize and prioritize. How's it going, you ask? Hmmm.... I guess that's where the stressed out and out of time part comes in.

The reality is that I can't do it all and I definitely can't do it all well. It's necessary to remind myself of my priorities so that an average day can become a good day. When I talk about priorities, I'm not referring to my handwritten and iPhone "to do" lists. I'm referring to REAL priorities. I only have three. In order, they are:

  • Family
  • Health
  • Work

If my "to do" list is stressing me out and the items on my list are not part of those 3 priorities, as a wise Disney princess once said, I "Let It Go." Here are a few of the things I will put off for the sake of my family, health and work: laundry, dishes, dry cleaning, cleaning my car, attending birthday parties, getting my hair & nails done... actually this list is pretty long!

However, there are a few things that are too important to postpone or brush off. They include time with my kids, regular exercise, doctor appointments (not just for my kids), prepping and buying healthy food (again, not just for my kids), regular date nights with my husband and spending time every day growing my business.

I'm writing this little blog as a gentle reminder to myself and to all of you - the amazing mommies out there - that we can't do it all. It's impossible. However, you have to do you, boo! Don't put off exercising so that you can finish the laundry. Don't skip your dentist appointment because you have too much to do around the house. And please don't sacrifice a date night with your significant other because you packed 3 kids' birthday parties into one weekend. Our job is not just to chauffeur and cook and clean for our kids. Our real role as mothers is to model self respect, healthy habits and boundaries. My young children don't notice a little mess, but they are certainly aware of the times that I'm overwhelmed and stressed out.

So if my nail polish is chipped, my house is messy or I can't make a birthday party, please forgive me or better yet, come help me fold some laundry!
