We are thrilled to honor Gabriella Capucetti Gomez this month! We have had the privilege to get to know her over the last 6 months and we feel very lucky to have the chance to watch her son, Luca grow from an infant into a cooing and smiling baby boy. Gabriella is a regular in Glendale and Silver Lake and she takes the time to get to know all the moms, their stories and their babies. We knew when she took her first class that she was just getting back into fitness, so we were impressed when she came regularly! Her dedication, her kindness and the incredible bond she has with her son make her a model mama. Thank you for being a wonderful role model, friend and a positive force in our group. This month is dedicated to you, Gabriella!
December 2019: Gabriella Capucetti Gomez
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from the San Gabriel Valley. My husband and I have lived in Glassell Park for the past 3 years.
Tell us about your little workout buddy!
My little workout buddy is my son Luca. Luca is 6 months of love and chub! He is the sweetest and happiest little baby. He loves to nap, shoot me silly smiles, and giggle while mama exercises. His favorite part of the workout is when he gets to stretch out on the mat and say hi to everyone after class. Luca loves to Stroller Stride!
How did you choose their name?
After months of going back and forth with my husband on different names, the name Luca came to me in a dream. I shared the name with my husband and he loved it. Luca means “bringer of light” and that is exactly what he is to our lives. He is the brightest light in our eyes.
How did you meet your partner?
Auggie and I met at Whittier College almost 15 years ago. I was a sophomore and he was a junior when we lived in the same dorm. We were just friends throughout college and then began dating after graduating. We’ve been married for 3 years.
What's your favorite thing to do on a "date night?"
My favorite date night is a movie and dinner. We like to try fun new restaurants around town. Now that we’re parents, we’d probably have to choose between either a movie or dinner. It’s hard to stay up past 8 o’clock these days. #tired
Tell us a little about your career...
I have been an elementary teacher for the past 8 years. I currently teach 5th grade but have also taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. My favorite part about my career is being able to learn and laugh with kids all day. It really is the most rewarding career. Although I love teaching, I have enjoyed being at home with Luca for the past 6 months. Nothing can compare to the time I’ve had at home with my baby. I will forever cherish the long afternoon naps and cuddles, watching his very first milestones, and watching him grow and change every single day. I return to the classroom in January when Luca is 8 months old. We will both miss our time at Stroller Strides.
How did you find out about FIT4MOM and what classes do you attend?
Once I reached 6 weeks postpartum and got my doctor’s ok to workout, I started looking for workouts I could do alongside baby. After some research online, I found FIT4MOM. It took me a couple of weeks before I decided to sign up and show up. I was hesitant at first as I didn’t know how Luca would do. I am so glad that I finally did! Stroller Strides has been our favorite part of our daily routine.
What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?
My favorite thing about FIT4MOM is that it is not just a fitness class but a community; an encouraging and supportive community of strong modern mamas. Each class not only nourishes your body but your mind and spirit as well. As a first time mom it has been so nice to meet and build relationships with other moms working hard to do their best day in and day out. An added bonus is being able to work out alongside the cutest little babies. Nothing beats coming up from a sit-up to see your baby shooting you a little smile. Those little smiles are what make you want to push a little harder each and every day.
What are you most looking forward to during the winter holiday season?
This holiday season I am most looking forward to creating new family traditions with Luca.I look forward to bringing home his first Christmas tree, putting up his stocking, showing him all the Christmas lights around town, and spending quality time with friends and family. This holiday season will be the most special not only because it’s our first as a family of 3 but also because these will be my last days at home with Luca before returning to work after the new year.
What is your proudest moment as a mom?
This is a tough one… I am more and more proud of myself each and every day I see how healthy and happy little Luca is. But if I had to pick one moment, it would probably be the first time I breastfed Luca in public. Luca was 10weeks old and we were at his first Angels game. I fed him, without a care in the world, right in the middle of the crowd. In that moment, I felt strong, empowered, and so so proud.
How has becoming a mother changed you?
Since becoming a mother, my world has become so much bigger, brighter, and full of love. Luca has brought so much joy and happiness into our lives. Everything I do is with Luca in mind. Everything I do now is to make him proud and set a good example for him.
What advice would you give a new mom?
It feels silly answering this question as a brand new mom.. but I would say the best advice I can give a new mom would be to trust yourself. Everyone and anyone will offer their advice and opinions about your baby but at the end of the day no one knows your baby better than you. You need to trust your mom gut, those maternal instincts, that powerful intuition that only you possess. You will always do what’s best for your baby. And last but not least, sleep when the baby sleeps. Jk, that never happens!
