We are so excited to introduce our July Mom of the Month, Theary Meng! She has been coming to Stroller Strides for years, she completed Body Back Transformation (totally rocked it) and she is now pregnant with her second child and coming to Strides all the time. She is strong, determined, supportive and just the sweetest mama to her little boy. We feel so lucky to know her and even luckier that she continues to persevere and inspire women around her by taking incredible care of herself during her second pregnancy. We can't wait to meet baby number two... and if you read on, you'll find out his name. Congratulations, Theary!
"Theary has been a consistent Stroller Strider for so long and I'm always happy to see her in class! Now I'm eager to meet her new little one any day now! She has worked hard throughout her pregnancy and she is such a great role model for mommas everywhere." - Denise
"I'm always inspired to see Theary in the classes I teach and the classes I take. She is getting so close to having her baby and she still shows up at the park, ready to rock and ready to work out. She's a true warrior and proves that pregnant mamas can do anything! I can't wait to meet her new little guy." - Amy I.
"Theary has been a consistent member for a while now. She has gotten past a fussy toddler, a hard first trimester, almost a full pregnancy and she keeps coming ready to give it her all. She is so strong and knows that whatever the struggle, self care is so important. She is taking care of herself so she can take care of her boys!" - Patty
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Thailand, but I was raised up north in the Bay Area.
Tell us about your little workout buddies!
Xavier is 2 years and 11 months young. He is starting Pre-School this fall and I’m not sure I handle it. I have another one on the way at the end of July. I’m not sure I’m ready for that either. A mom’s life is an adventure no one can really prepare for.
How did you choose their names?
Xavier was the only boy name we could agree on at the time. We name him based on our love of comic book heroes. Our next boy’s name will be Oscar. It's based on my favorite writer’s name and my husband’s favorite Sesame Street character. It's also a name his big brother Xavier can say!
How did you meet your husband?
Lawrence and I met at San Jose State’s Art & Illustration program.
What's your favorite thing to do on a date night?
We love the classic dinner and a movie night. Theaters with reclining lounge chairs that offer amazing dinner option are even better!
Tell us a little about more about you!
I’m a stay at home mom and I love to do creative art projects with my child. I am also a painter and a sculptor.
How did you find out about FIT4MOM and what classes do you attend?
I actually stumbled across the group when I was trying to get back into shape by walking with a newborn strapped to my chest. I thought your way was better.
What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?
I love being able to do something fun and good for you at the same time. A mom’s life is all about multitasking.
What is your favorite family activity?
We love traveling. We love learning and embracing new cultures. Last year we went to Spain and it was the most inspirational experience! Xavier tried his first first squid ink noodles and walked in his first World Pride Parade.
What is your proudest moment as a mom?
When Xavier sat and painted his first rock this past June for Father’s Day. It was the first project that didn’t take all day and multiple bribes to finish. My husband and I are both artists, and we were afraid X wouldn't be patient enough to complete it. But on that day, he sat, painted and looked like he was enjoying himself.
How has becoming a mother changed you?
I have become more patient. It is a super power that every mom needs when she is dealing with a screaming toddler.
What advice would you give a new mom?
Take care of yourself first even though it's against the “mom” instinct which is to put the child first. When I was a new mom, I did just that. I barely slept and barely ate. I wanted to be there every moment and felt guilty when I wasn’t. I was no good to anyone. Having a child is like being in a plane with the emergency lights on and the airbags dropping from the overhead compartment. They advise you to put on one first before helping your neighbor. In other words, take care of yourself first so that you are able to take care of your child.
